Air India still offers a wide range of free meals and snacks for passengers on all flights. Below you will find information on Air India meals for economy class as well as special meal information and how to order.

Since 1 April 2019 Air India has made some changes to the inflight catering on their International and Domestic flights.

Fresh fruit will be replaced by fruit yoghurt instead, fried items are being removed from domestic afternoon tea options. Instead, expect vegetable upma and similar offerings on domestic flights.

New inflight drinks include Jal Jeera, Masala lassi or Buttermilk which replace sweetened juice offerings.

For international flights, passengers will be served meals depending on the time of day. Breakfast is served between 0730-1000 while lunch is served from 1230-1500 and dinner at 1930-2200. For all other times, you still will be served a meal it may just be a snack or a smaller meal.


For domestic flights, passengers will be served meals at these meal times. Breakfast is served between 0530-0930 a morning or afternoon tea service is scheduled between either 0930-1130 & 1500-1830, lunch is served from 1200-1430 while dinner is served at 1830-2230. Note that supper is served on flights after 2300.

Air India domestic meals are non-vegetarian only, and no alcohol is served on domestic Air India flights. Shorter flights will offer snack boxes that contain a small drink and snack. On longer domestic routes expect hot meals at main meal times.


Air India special meals require at least 48 hours notice to pre-order for your flight. The best way to order is at the time of making your reservation or through the airline’s website.  When requesting special meals ensure that you advise whether or not you require the special meal to be vegetarian or non-vegetarian.

Diabetic Meal, Fruit Platter Meal, Gluten Intolerant Meal, Kosher Meal, Low Calorie Meal, Low Fat Meal, Low Salt Meal, Moslem Meal, Low Lactose Meal, Vegetarian Raw Meal, Seafood Meal (First & Executive classes only), Special Meal, Vegan Meal, Jain Meal, Lacto-Ovo Meal, Vegetarian Oriental Meal.
