Air India was founded in 1932 as Tata Airlines and renamed Air India in 1946. The airline operates to over 100 destinations worldwide and is currently in the process of upgrading their inflight service across all cabins.

ECONOMY CLASS

Ar India still offers a wide range of free meals and snacks for passengers on all flights.

International Flights

For international flights, passengers will be served meals depending on the time of day. Breakfast is served between 0730-1000 while lunch is served from 1230-1500 and dinner at 1930-2200. For all other times, you still will be served a meal it may just be a snack or a smaller meal.

  • Flights of up to 5 hours: Passengers will be served one major meal.
  • Flights of 5 to 9 hours: Passengers will be served one major meal and one minor meal. The minor meal may be a meal/beverage or a snack.
  • Flights of 9 to 11 hours: Passengers will be served two major meals.
  • Flights of 11 hours and above: Passengers will be served two major meals and one minor meal. The minor meal may be a meal/beverage or a snack.

Domestic Flights

Air India domestic meals are non-vegetarian only, and no alcohol is served on domestic Air India flights. Shorter flights will offer snack boxes that contain a small drink and snack. On longer domestic routes expect hot meals at main meal times.

  • Flights of 0-45 minutes: Passengers will be served beverages on request.
  • Flights of 46-60 minutes: Passengers will be served a cold menu, which may include snacks such as sandwiches, pastries, and cookies.
  • Flights of 61-90 minutes: Passengers will be served a cold menu and a hot vegetarian menu.
  • Flights of 90-120 minutes: Passengers will be served meals by ‘Time of Day’ with choices of vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus. They will also be served beverages, including tea and coffee.
  • Flights above 120 minutes: Passengers will be served meals by ‘Time of Day’ with multiple choices of vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus. They will also be served beverages, including tea and coffee.

SPECIAL MEALS

Air India offers a variety of special meals to accommodate passengers with dietary restrictions or preferences. These meals are available on all Air India flights and can be requested when booking your ticket or up to 24 hours before departure.

  • Vegetarian: This meal is suitable for passengers who follow a vegetarian diet. It does not contain any meat, poultry, or fish.
  • Vegan: This meal is suitable for passengers who follow a vegan diet. It does not contain any animal products, including dairy, eggs, or honey.
  • Gluten-free: This meal is suitable for passengers who follow a gluten-free diet. It does not contain any gluten-containing ingredients.
  • Lactose-free: This meal is suitable for passengers who follow a lactose-free diet. It does not contain any lactose-containing ingredients.
  • Halal: This meal is suitable for passengers who follow a Halal diet. It is prepared according to Islamic dietary laws.
  • Kosher: This meal is suitable for passengers who follow a Kosher diet. It is prepared according to Jewish dietary laws.
  • Infant: This meal is suitable for infants. It contains a variety of nutritious foods that are easy for infants to digest.
  • Jain: This meal is suitable for passengers who follow a Jain diet. It does not contain any root vegetables, as these are considered to be living beings in Jainism.
  • Diabetic: This meal is suitable for passengers who have diabetes. It is low in sugar and carbohydrates.
  • Low-calorie: This meal is suitable for passengers who are trying to lose weight. It is low in calories.
  • Low-fat: This meal is suitable for passengers who are trying to reduce their fat intake. It is low in fat.
  • High-protein: This meal is suitable for passengers who are trying to increase their protein intake. It is high in protein.
  • Religious: This meal is suitable for passengers who have specific religious dietary restrictions.
  • Other: If you have any other dietary restrictions or preferences, please contact Air India customer service and they will be happy to help you find a suitable meal.

Air India will do its best to accommodate your request for a special meal. However, it is important to note that not all special meals are available on all flights. If your requested meal is not available, Air India will provide you with an alternative meal.
